Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. (April 24, 2016) – Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball could not bring home a series win against the Regis University Rangers Sunday as they split a doubleheader, losing game one, 9-4 and winning game two, 7-1. The two teams wound up splitting their four game series.
After a 2-2 weekend, the Pack now has a 24-13 record with a 17-8 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic games. They still lead the RMAC's Plains Division. The Rangers moved to 17-23 (11-16 RMAC).
Taylor Snyder (Jr., Elk Ridge, Utah) slugged three hits on the day. Snyder clubbed his team-leading ninth home run of 2016. He ranks second in the RMAC with nine long balls.
Snyder finished the series 7-for-17 (.412) with two home runs, two doubles, and seven RBIs. He also scored three runs and stole a base.
Senior, Manny Menocal (Las Vegas, Nev.) knocked three hits in seven trips between the two games. He tripled a drove in four runs on the day. Menocal also scored twice.
His Fellow Senior Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished the double header 3-for-7. Godman slugged nine hits in 15 at bats in the series. He continues to lead the nation with a .510 average. Godman also walked and was hit by a pitch as he had a .647 on-base percentage for the series.
In game one, the Pack jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. With two men in scoring position, Beau Cebulski (Sr., Las Animas, Colo.) hit an infield single that Regis pitcher, Noah Gotsis, grabbed and then threw it into right field. Menocal and Gilbert Sauceda (Fr., Indio, Calif.) scored on the play.
Up 2-1, the Pack added to its lead in the fifth. With Godman on first Snyder stepped up and bashed his ninth home run of the season. Snyder's two-run shot put the Pack up 4-1.
Despite Snyder's homer, the Pack could not hang on in game one. Defensive miscues and errors allowed the Rangers to score eight unanswered runs to take game 9-4.
Kyle Peeler (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) took his first loss of the season to drop his record to 3-1. Peeler got tagged for five earned runs in 6.2 innings of work. Gotsis grabbed his fifth win of the season.
Game two belonged to the Pack. Snyder and Dominick Bregar (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) led off the inning with singles. Menocal drove both men in with a base knock of his own. He would steal second and later scored on a Brandon Castaneda (Jr., Azusa, Calif.) one bagger to take a 3-0 lead.
The Rangers answered an inning later with a solo home run. This would be the only blemish on Kyle Lazcano's (Jr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) ledger. Lazcano threw a seven inning complete game to improve his record to 5-3. He struck out five batters, while giving up just four hits. Lazcano did not walk a batter as he earned the win.
CSU-Pueblo tacked on four more runs in the sixth. Bregar belted a single with the bases loaded to bring in pinch runners Justin Willman (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) and Jordyn Compehos (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.).
Menocal followed and swatted his third triple of the season. Spencer Daniels (Jr., Saugus, Calif.) and Bregar came home to give the Pack a 7-1 lead. They would go on to win by this score in the added game that did not count towards the RMAC standings.
Bregar went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He ranks second in the RMAC with a .426 average. He also stole a base Sunday.
