Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. (April 1, 2016) – Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball opened its four –game series against Colorado Christian University in dominating fashion by beating the Cougars 11-3. The ThunderWolves have now won eight games in a row.
CSU-Pueblo stands 18-6 on the season. The Pack has won 12 of their 13 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. CSU-Pueblo sits atop the RMAC's Plains Division.
Senior Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.)continued his torrid hot streak. Godman went 2-for-2 with a home run and five RBIs. He reached base in all four of his plate appearances.
Godman extended his hitting to 24 games. He has a hit in each of the Pack's games this season. Godman also stole two more bases. The senior leads the RMAC with 25 steals this season.
Starter, Brandon Conlin (Jr., Norco, Calif.) kept the Cougars in check for seven innings. Conlin allowed just one run and seven hits in his seven innings of work. He struck out five and only walked one.
Dominick Bregar (Pueblo, Colo.) added two more hits, including his 15th double. Bregar leads the RMAC in doubles and ranks third in the nation in doubles per game.
Colorado Christian jumped out to an early lead. The Cougars got on the board with a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 advantage before the Pack could take their first swings.
The Pack wasted no time in tying the game up. Godman got to second base after being hit by a pitch and stole a base. Bregar bashed a double to bring in Godman.
In the second inning, the Pack took the lead for good. Godman crushed his team-leading fifth home run of the season. Beau Cebulski (Sr., Las Animas, Colo.) and Jordyn Compehos (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) scored on Godman's blast. Godman's home run gave the Pack a 4-1 lead.
Bregar kicked off the third inning with a single. He would score on a Manny Menocal (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) base hit. Cebulski brought in Taylor Snyder (Jr., Elk Rodge, Utah) with a sacrifice fly. Compehos plated Brandon Castaneda (Jr., Azusa, Calif.) with his second hit of the day. Menocal and Compehos scored on a Godman triple.
Godman's two-run triple gave the Pack a 9-1 lead after three. He now leads the RMAC with four triples on the season. Godman also stands tied for the RMAC lead in RBIs (27) and average (.520).
CSU-Pueblo tacked on another run in the seventh. Snyder smashed his fourth home run of the season. Snyder's solo shot gave the Pack a 10-1 lead heading into the eighth.
The ThunderWolves added a little insurance in the eighth. Pinch hitter, Mike DeHerrera (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) swatted a single that brought in fellow pinch hitter Justin Willman (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) to put the Pack up by double digits. The Pack took an 11-1 lead into the ninth.
Although the Cougars scored two runs in the ninth, the Pack still closed them out to earn an 11-3 win. Conlin earned the victory as he moved to 3-1 on the season.
The Pack and the Cougars will continue their four-game series Saturday with a doubleheader at Rawlings Field. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
