Box Score DENVER, Colo. (March 6, 2016)– One day after winning his 1,100th career game, Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball Head Coach Stan Sanchez began his push towards 1,200. The Pack knocked off Regis University Sunday by a 5-4 final to complete their sweep of the Rangers.
With a four-game sweep of the Rangers in their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series, the Pack now holds a 10-5 record on the season. Their 4-0 RMAC record places them atop the Plains Division.
Freshman, Gilbert Sauceda (Indio, Calif.) led the Pack to victory with a home run and two RBIs. Sauceda finished the day 3-of-5 at the plate and scored two runs.
Seniors, Dominick Bregar (Pueblo, Colo.) and Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.) extended their hitting streaks. Bregar went 2-for-5, while Godman went 2-for-4. Both players have a hit in each of the Pack's 15 games this season. Bregar's hit streak now stands at 17 games dating back to last season.
Kyle Peeler (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) earned his second win of the season as he moved to 2-0. Peeler tossed seven innings allowing just two runs, two hits, and two walks. He struck out four Rangers in the win.
The two teams remained tied until the top of the third. Godman slugged his second triple of the season. Sauceda followed and launched the first home run of his college career. Sauceda's two run home run put the Pack up 2-0 after three.
Sauceda scored again in the fifth on a Manny Menocal (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) sacrifice fly. Menocal's RBI flyout made it a 3-0 Pack lead.
Regis responded in the sixth with a two-run home run. This would be the Rangers final run off Peeler as they closed within one.
In the eighth inning, the Pack pushed the lead to three once again. David Gunther (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) drove in Oliver Jackson (Jr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) with a single.
With two outs, Godman plated Gunther with a single of his own. Godman's seventh RBI of the weekend made it a 5-2 Pack lead.
Regis made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth. Down to their final out, the Rangers got two runs to make it a one-run game.
The Pack turned to Tyler Rich (Sr., Colton, Calif.) to get the final out. Rich did not disappoint as he forced a ground out to end the game and secure a 5-4 win for the Pack. Rich earned his first save of the season for putting the finishing touches on the Pack's four-game sweep of the Rangers.
CSU-Pueblo will try to remain unbeaten in conference play when they visit New Mexico Highlands University for a four-game series March 11-13. The ThunderWolves and the Cowboys will begin their Friday at 2 p.m.
