Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 20, 2016) With the bases loaded and Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball down two runs in the sixth inning, Oliver Jackson (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) clobbered a grand slam home run to help the Pack clinch a series sweep of Adams State University. The Pack beat the Grizzlies in both halves of a doubleheader Monday, taking game one 12-6 and rallying to win game two 8-5.

By sweeping their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rivals, the Pack now owns a share of the conference lead with an 11-1 record in RMAC games. CSU-Pueblo holds a 17-6 record in 2016. Adams State falls to 11-14 (7-5 RMAC). The two schools entered the series tied atop the Plains Division, which the Pack now leads.

Jackson dominated the Grizzlies throughout both games. The junior went 6-for-8 at the plate with two home runs and eight RBIs. He also scored four runs and added two doubles. He drove in five runs in game two equaling Adams State's production.

Senior, Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.) pushed his hitting streak to 23 games. He went 3-for-7 on the day with a dinger. Godman also scored four times, drove in two runs. The speedy Godman also stole two more bases, bringing his weekend total to eight.

The Pack surged to victory in game one thanks to their top four hitters. The quartet of Godman, Gilbert Sauceda (Fr., Indio, Calif.) Dominick Bregar (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), and Jackson went 10-for-16 (.625) in game one with nine runs scored and eight RBIs.

In game one, the Grizzlies seized an early lead with a run in the first. However, this lead would be short lived.

CSU-Pueblo scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Sauceda came around on a Taylor Snyder (Jr., Elk Ridge, Utah) sacrifice fly. Brandon Castaneda (Jr. Azusa, Calif.) belted a double that brought in both Bregar and Jackson to give the Pack a 3-1 lead after one.

Jordyn Compehos (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) made a pair of superb plays in the top of half of the second. Compehos made a diving stop and flipped the grounder to second for a fielder's choice for out number two. He then scaled the bullpen fence to bring back a foul ball for the final out of the second.

The Pack added to their lead in the bottom half. After Compehos singled and stole second, Godman hit an RBI single to push the Pack lead to 4-1.

Godman stole second. Bregar reached on a walk and both he and Godman stole another base to put two men in scoring position for Jackson who sent a double into the outfield that scored both Godman and Bregar. Jackson's double made it a 6-1 Pack lead.

Leading off the bottom of the fourth, Godman gave the Pack another insurance run. The senior smashed a solo shot, his team-leading fourth of the season, to give the Pack a 7-1 advantage.

Adams  State chipped into to the Pack, closing within one in the eighth inning. During this stretch, Pack starter, Kyle Lazcano (Jr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) left the game after five innings. Lazcano allowed two runs and struck out two to earn the win. Lazcano's record now stands at 3-2.

With the Grizzlies back within one, the Pack unleashed a five-run outburst that would put Adams State in the rearview mirror. The Pack batted around in the eight. Sauceda swatted a triple that drove in Francis Griffin (Sr., Oakland, Calif.) and Justin Willman (Jr., Falcon, Colo.).

Another insurance runs came across for the Pack a batter later when Bregar's single scored Sauceda. Bregar touched home on Jackson's second double of the game. Jackson came across on a David Gunther (Jr., Alburquereque, N.M.) single that secured a 12-6 win for the Pack.

Bregar went 2-for-3 with two walks in game one. He scored three times and plated another run. However, his 27-game hitting streak that dated back to the 2015 season came to an end in game two.

In game two, the Pack jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Godman singled to extend his hitting streak and made it to third on a throwing error. He would score on a Bregar ground out.

Jackson stepped in with two outs and blasted his first home run of the game. Jackson's solo shot made it a 2-0 Pack lead.

Adams State quickly erased the Pack's lead with a five-run second inning. The five runs scored by the Grizzlies would be their only runs on Kyle Peeler (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) who pitched five innings and struck out five batters. Peeler allowed eight hits, six of which came in the second as he received a no-decision.

CSU-Pueblo got one back in their half of the second. Compehos drove in Manny Menocal (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) with a sacrifice fly that trimmed the Grizzlies lead to 5-3 after two.

The scored remained that way until the bottom of the sixth of a scheduled seven inning game. Adams State starter Josh Keaton, plunked Godman. He then walked Sauceda and Bregar to load the bases.

With the ducks on the pond, a pair of outs, and two strikes on the scoreboard, Jackson crushed a pitch over the fence in right center field. Jackson's grand slam home run, his second dinger of the game, proved to be the deciding blow. The Pack tacked on another run later in the inning to make it 8-5.

Jorge Venegas (Jr., Las Lunas, N.M.)closed the door on the Grizzlies with a 1-2-3 seventh. He picked up his second win of the season and the weekend with two innings of scoreless  work. Venegas struck out three Grizzlies.

CSU-Pueblo has won four of its last five games in come from behind fashion. The Pack will look to keep its seven-game winning streak alive when they visit Metro State University of Denver next weekend.
