Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 20, 2016) Down two runs in each of their doubleheader games, Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball rallied to beat Adams State and earn a doubleheader sweep. The Pack took game one 11-9 and then won game two in walk-off fashion by a score of 6-5.

After sweeping the doubleheader against Adams State, the Pack now leads the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Plains Division. CSU-Pueblo stands 15-6 overall with a 9-1 record in RMAC games. The Grizzlies fell to 11-12 (7-3 RMAC).

Virtually the entire lineup contributed for the Pack, but it started at the top of the order with senior Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.). Godman went 6-for -8 on the day, 3-for-4 in each game, with five runs scored. He also stole six bases to push his RMAC lead to 21 swipes on the season.

Godman now leads the RMAC with a .516 batting average. The senior has hit safely in each of the Pack's 21 games in 2016, with two or more hits in 12 straight games.

First baseman, Dominick Bregar (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) also extended his hitting streak. Bregar also has a hit in each of the Pack's 21 games this season. His hitting streak reaches 26 games dating back to the 2015 campaign.

Bregar went 6-for-9 in the doubleheader with four hits in game one. He drove in three runs on the day and scored twice. Bregar now leads the RMAC with 14 doubles after swatting two Sunday. His .459 average ranks third in the conference.

Freshman, Gilbert Sauceda (Indio, Calif.) went 4-for-8 with four RBIs on the day. Taylor Snyder (Jr., Elk Ridge, Utah) finished 3-for-6 on the day with a home run, a triple and three RBIs.

In game one, Godman and Bregar wasted no time extending their hitting streaks. Godman led off the bottom of the first with a single. After Godman stole second, Bregar smacked a double that scored the Pack's center fielder.

Adams State tied it in the second, but the Pack reclaimed the lead in a big way in the fourth as they batted around and scored five runs. Snyder led off the inning by blasting his third home run of the season. All three of Snyder's dingers have come against the Grizzlies.

Beau Cebulski (Sr., Las Animas, Colo.) and Brandon Castaneda (Jr., Azusa, Calif.) reached base. Francis Griffin (Sr., Oakland, Calif.) plated Cebulski with a single. Castaneda scored on a Sauceda base knock.

Griffin and Godman crossed the plate on an Oliver Jackson (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) one-bagger as the Pack claimed a 6-1 lead after four. Jackson went 2-for-5 with three RBIs in game one.

The Grizzlies would respond in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs and spoiling Cameron Weinberg's (Jr., San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) start. Adams State tacked on another run in the sixth as they emerged from the middle innings with an 8-6 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Pack fought back. Castaneda led off the inning with a single. Griffin followed with a walk. Godman drove in pinch runner David Gunther (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.)with an infield single. The Pack tied it on a Bregar base hit that scored Griffin.

Not satisfied with a tie, the Pack added three more runs in the eighth. Jackson singled to bring in Godman. Sauceda scored on a Snyder walk. The Pack's final run came on a Manny Menocal (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) sacrifice fly.

Josh Nuernberg (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) allowed one run in the ninth, but would get the final out as the Pack snuck away with an 11-9 victory in game one. Nuernberg earned his third win of the season in game one, tossing 2.2 innings of one-run ball.

Game two began a little differently, as Adams State scored two runs in the second to claim an early lead. CSU-Pueblo rallied with three runs in the third.

Godman singled, stole second, moved to third on an error, and came home on a Sauceda single. Bregar crushed his second double to bring Sauceda across. Snyder drove in Bregar a base knock to give the Pack a 3-2 lead.

Adams State did not trail for long. The Grizzlies scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth as they held a 5-3 lead going into the seventh and final inning.

Down two with two outs left, the Pack clawed back into it. Jordyn Compehos (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) slugged a huge double. Godman singled and stole second, putting Compehos on third and the tying run in scoring position.

Sauceda swatted a clutch single as he tied the game by bringing in Compehos and Godman. Justin Willman (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) pinch ran for Sauceda. He would move to third on a Bregar single.

With the winning run 90 feet away, Jackson clubbed a hard shot that ricocheted off an Adams State glove allowing Willman to race home for the winning run. Jackson's walk-off play resulted in a 6-5 Pack win.

Jorge Venegas (Jr., Las Lunas, N.M.) earned his first win of the season. Venegas threw two scoreless innings of relief allowing just one hit, while striking out two.

The ThudnerWolves have now come from behind for each of their last three wins. CSU-Pueblo has now won nine of its last 10 games.

CSU-Pueblo and Adams State will wrap up this four-game series with a doubleheader Monday. First pitch of game one is set for 12 p.m.
