Pack men blank Dallas Baptist 9-0 for first spring victory

RESULTS

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 15, 2016) - In its spring home opener Tuesday, the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's tennis team defeated Dallas Baptist University 9-0 at the Pueblo Tennis Club.

After starting the championship season with a 0-6 record, the Pack (4-10) needed to return home to find their first win.

To set the tone for the dual, the ThunderWolves used the tiebreaker in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to earn victories. No. 3 doubles was able to win a bit easier, 8-4.

None of the six singles matches went to a third set, although sophomore Siggy Menzel (Biggera Waters, Australia) needed a first-set tiebreaker to earn his win at No. 1 singles, which was his first at that position as a member of the ThunderWolves.

The 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles for Steven Alcala (So., Pueblo, Colo.) was his first of the spring at the second position, while he also earned his first win at No. 2 doubles with partner and fellow Pueblo native, sophomore Brenden Sullinger.

Next for the Pack is a neutral site meeting in Denver versus St. Mary's University (Texas) March 18. As long as the weather holds, the match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
