Wurscher's record day sparks Pack 15-5 win over Adams State

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 12, 2016) Allison Wurscher (Fr., Tigard, Ore.) scored a Colorado State University-Pueblo record seven goals as she led Pack women's lacrosse to a 15-5 win over Adams State University Saturday at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Lacrosse Stadium.

Wurscher broke the Pack's record with seven goals, two more than the previous record, which happened several times in 2015. The freshman added three assists, to finish with 10 total points which also shattered the program record of seven, set one week earlier by Allye Webb (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.).

The Pack's 15-5 win over Adams State evened CSU-Pueblo's record at 2-2. Although both the Pack and Grizzlies compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Saturday's showdown did not count as a conference game.

Wurscher accounted for the Pack's entire offense in the first half, scoring all five of the Pack's goals before intermission. Allison Kobel (So., Torrance, Calif.) and Chloe Sharko (Fr., Naperville, Ill.) had assists on Wurscher's first and last goals of the first half respectively.

Adams State did score on a free position shot in the first half. However, Wurscher outscored the Grizzlies 5-1 in the opening stanza. Her second and third goals of the game came just 14 seconds apart,

The second half began with a similar feel to the first as Wurscher completed the sock trick with a free position goal. Wurscher's sixth strike came just 1:39 into the second half.

The Grizzlies fought back with two consecutive goals that cut the Pack's lead to 6-3. These two Adams State goals came less than a minute apart.

Just 14 seconds after the Grizzlies third goal, Pack captain Rachael Welzin (So., Farmington, Minn.) answered. Welzin controlled the draw and carried right to front of the net where she fired in the goal.

Freshman Sami LaBella (Pleasanton, Calif.) pushed the Pack's lead back to five with her sixth goal of the season. Wurscher dished out her first helper of the game on LaBella's strike.

Adams State closed within four once more 24 seconds later. The Grizzlies netted a free position shot to cut the Pack's lead to 8-4.

Webb got in the act with back-to-back goals that put the Pack up 10-4. These goals from Webb came 47 seconds apart.

Taylor Christensen (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) rocketed in a shot 36 seconds after Webb's second tally. Wurscher added her third helper and second in 36 seconds on Christensen's third of the year.

Wurscher scored her record setting seventh goal with 14:19 left on the clock. Alix Zierdern (So., Elk River, Minn.) potted her first goal of the game 36 seconds later. This tally was Zierden's fourth of the year.
Webb netted her third of the game and 10th of the season 16 seconds after Zierden's strike. Abigail Holak (So., Duluth, Minn.) pocketed an assist on Webb's ninth of the year. This six-goal run put the Pack up 14-4.
After an Adams State tally, LaBella launched in her second goal of the game. LaBella's seventh of the year put the Pack up 15-5, which would be the final score.

Ane Marie Horton (Fr., Long Beach, Calif.) earned her second win of the season. Horton (2-1) stopped eight of the 12 shots she faced in 43 minutes of work. Nicole Burkhauser (So., Auburn, Wash) stopped one of the two shots she faced in relief.

Ellie O'Brien (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) secured another four grounds balls for the Pack. O'Brien leads the RMAC with 17 ground balls and 4.25 pick ups per game.

The Pack caused 14 turnovers, doubling the Grizzlies in that category. Draws remained even with both sides winning 11.

CSU-Pueblo will battle McKendree University Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium. This game will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony held at 3p.m. for the newly renovated facility. CSU-Pueblo's men's lacrosse team will play a game at 7 p.m. against Rockhurst University.
