Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (February 5, 2016) - In the first game of their weekend homestand, Colorado State University- Pueblo women's basketball battled hard to a 64-61 win of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. With the win, the Pack improved to 19-4 (13-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) and now holds first place overall in the RMAC. UCCS dropped to 15-7 (11-5 RMAC).
Reigning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week,Tuileisu Anderson (So., Vancouver, Wash.) led all scorers with 16 points. Anderson potted all four of her attempts from the foul line.
Angie Moore (Jr., Katy, Texas) scored four points in the first quarter. For Moore, these were her first points since she returned from an injury suffered Jan. 2. Molly Rohrer (Fr., Greenwood Village, Colo.) also scored four points as the Pack led 11-9 at the end of one.
Ashley Piper (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) collected the Pack's first three points of the second at the free throw line. Piper finished with six points and 10 rebounds.
Despite Piper's success at the line, the Pack went the first three minutes of the second without a field goal. This allowed UCCS to take an 18-14 lead.
A five-point run put the Pack in front 19-18, but the Mountain Lions answered with a seven point run that gave them a 25-19 advantage. Mariana Lambert (Sr. Jundiai, Brazil) scored the game's next five points as the Pack closed within one. The Pack would eventually take a 33-32 lead and hold it at the break.
Moore and Anderson led the Pack with eight points each in the first half. Dee Arrieta (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.) had four rebounds and two helpers in the opening 20 minutes.
Arrieta filled the stat sheet once again with eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in 37 minutes. She averages the third most minutes of RMAC players.
Coming out of the intermission, the two teams traded the lead until a 7-2 run helped the Pack take a 49-42 advantage. UCCs would close within five, but a Lambert 3-pointer put the Pack up 52-44 at the end of three. The Pack outshot the Mountain Lions 54.5 percent to 26.7 percent in the third quarter.
UCCS went on a 10-4 run over the first 3:43 of the fourth quarter. The Pack responded and would reopen the lead to seven, 61-54, with less than five minutes to play.
However, a 7-2 UCCS run brought them within two with 2:10 left on the clock. The two teams traded buckets and the Pack carried a 63-61 lead into the final minute. They would hit the final nail in the coffin, a free throw, and thwart UCCS' final 3-point attempts to clinch the win.
Moore finished with 10 points. She went 4-of-5 from the field and knocked down both of her free throws in her first full game back from injury.
Lambert also scored 10 points for the Pack, including a pair of 3-pointers. With an 18-4 record, the Pack has matched their best start in school history.
CSU-Pueblo Athletics will bring back its popular Take A Kid To A Game Night to Massari Arena, Saturday Feb. 6 when Pack Basketball hosts MSU Denver. Denver Nuggets' SuperMascot Rocky will be at both the men's and women's games to entertain fans and children.
Rocky will perform at halftime of both games. He will also be available for photos with CSU-Pueblo's mascot, Wolfie.
The Pack women will play the Roadrunners at a special start time of 5 p.m. CSU-Pueblo's men's team will take the court at 7:30 p.m.
All children 14 & under will receive free admission to the game Feb. 6. These kids will also get the chance to enjoy a complimentary kid zone feature face painting, coloring, drinks, and arts and crafts all courtesy of the CSU-Pueblo Athletics Department.
