Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. Feb. 27, 2016 — The Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball team turned in a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde performance at the plate Saturday in its doubleheader against No. 11 ranked Lubbock Christian University as, after getting shutout 6-0 in Game One, the Pack roared back to win Game Two, 15-7.
The split Saturday gave CSU-Pueblo (6-4 overall) a 2-1 series lead over the Chaparrals (10-3 overall) heading into Sunday's finale, scheduled for 12 p.m. at Rawlings Field.
For the Thunderwolves, their 15 runs in Game Two — eight of which came in the fourth inning to break the game open — was the highest offensive output for the program since they defeated Adams State, 15-1, on April 4, 2015.
Junior shortstop Taylor Snyder (Elk Ridge, Utah) recorded a team-high three of the Pack's 14 hits and added a pair of RBI and runs scored. Senior outfielders Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.), who was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Francis Griffin (Oakland, Calif.) each added a pair of hits for the Pack.
Griffin, who entered Saturday's games with six RBI on the season, nearly doubled that total in Game Two alone. He finished 2-for-3 with five RBI and two runs scored, highlighted by a three-run home run Griffin drilled over the right-center field fence that made the score 10-3 at the time.
Junior catcher Mitch Doucette (Brockville, Ontario, Canada) added two RBI, while Gilbert Sauceda (Indio, Calif.), Dominick Bregar (Pueblo, Colo.), Gavin Compton (Pueblo, Colo.) and Spencer Daniels (Saugus, Calif.) all notched one RBI in Game Two.
On the mound, junior right-hander Kyle Peeler (Las Vegas, Nev.) earned his first victory of the season with a workmanlike five innings pitched, four earned runs on 10 hits, and three strikeouts versus one walk.
Game Two was a satisfying nightcap to a day that didn't have a desirable beginning for Pack after being limited to four hits in a 6-0 shutout tossed in Game One by Lubbock Christian starter, Guillaume Blanchette.
The left-handed Canadian pitched a complete game, notching six strikeouts in the process, and received some help from Colorado natives Brandon Rix (Cañon City, Colo.) and Dillon Drury (Colorado City, Colo.).
Drury, formerly of Pueblo County High School, and Rix combined for four hits and four RBI to help create the seperation in the Caparrals' 6-0 victory in Game One.
The Pack received hits from Godman, Bregar, Manny Menocal (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Beau Cebulski (Las Animas, Colo.)
CSU-Pueblo will look to earn a valuable series victory over Lubbock Christian, a South Central Region foe, at 12 p.m. Sunday. Junior left-hander Cameron Weinberg (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) is set to toe the rubber for the ThunderWolves in their last home game before a stretch of eight straight out on the road.
