Box Score RMAC SHOOTOUT BRACKET
PUEBLO, Colo. Feb. 26, 2016 — On the evening the Colorado State University-Pueblo women's basketball team honored its four departing seniors, the program did so in grand fashion as the Pack set a school record for wins in a season with a 78-40 rout of Western State Colorado University inside Massari Arena.
CSU-Pueblo (23-5 overall, 18-5 RMAC), which graduates Dee Arrieta (G, Pueblo West, Colo.), Jaszymn Johnson (G, Denver, Colo.), Mariana Lambert (F, Jundai, Brazil) and Ashley Piper (G/F, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) this spring, added some style to their record-setting victory as the 78 points marked the second highest scoring output this season by the ThunderWolves. They scored 79 in a 79-55 drubbing of New Mexico Highlands on Dec. 12, 2015.
Two underclassmen led the Pack in scoring Friday as centers Molly Rohrer (Fr., Greenwood Village, Colo.) and Angie Moore (Jr., Katy, Texas) each tallied 14 points.
Piper, who grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and freshman Lauren Heyn (Loomis, Calif.) each tallied nine points apiece, while Tuileisu Anderson (So., Vancouver, Wash.), Arrieta and Lambert each added six points.
The Pack, after falling behind 7-0 to begin the game, finished the first quarter on an 18-0 blitz and didn't look back, thanks in large part to their effort on the defensive end of the floor.
CSU-Pueblo was stifling as it limited the Mountaineers to 30 percent field goal shooting, and held them scoreless for 9:08 of game time between the 6:28 mark of the first quarter and 7:40 mark of the second quarter (20-0 run) to build a 20-7 lead.
Offensively, the Pack did most of its damage in the paint and out on the fast break, finishing with 24 points in the paint and 26 points off of 16 Western State (4-20 overall, 2-20 RMAC) turnovers. CSU-Pueblo had a 39-12 advantage in bench points Friday, as well.
The Thunderwolves built their lead to as many as 41 points at 76-31 when Chandler Babi (G, Bennett, Colo.) nailed a 3-pointer with 2:31 remaining, putting a bow on the 78-40 final.
CSU-Pueblo will have three days to rest up and prepare for the RMAC Shootout, which is set to begin Tuesday. The Pack earned the No. 2 seed and will host a first-round game against No. 7-seed Colorado Mesa University at 7 p.m. inside Massari Arena.
The ThunderWolves are making their 14th straight appearance in the conference tournament and were winners of the RMAC Shootout four times during that span (2005-06, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10). Last season the Pack hosted the first round and won 62-57 against Black Hills State University, then earned a trip to the title game with a win against host Colorado Mesa, 61-51. The ThunderWolves lost in the championship 50-46 to Colorado Christian Univeristy.
