Pack Baseball pummels Adams State, 14-3 behind Snyder's 2 dingers

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 14, 2016)–  A seven-run third inning and two home runs from Taylor Snyder (Jr., Elk Ridge, Utah) propelled Colorado State University-Pueblo to a 14-3 victory over Adams State University Sunday. With a victory in the series finale of the non-conference set, the Pack evened their record at 3-3.

Snyder smacked two home runs, his first two as a member of the Pack. The shortstop slugged four hits in four trips and drove in three runs. All four of Snyder's hit went for extra bases.

Dominick Bregar (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Bregar leads the Pack with a .375 batting average.

Kyle Lazcano (Jr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) earned his first win to knot up his record at 1-1. Lazcano lasted five innings, allowing three runs and striking out five.

The Pack wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the first, Gilbert Sauceda (Fr., Indio, Calif.) drew a walk. Bregar promptly plated Sauceda with a double. Bregar advanced to third on a balk and scored on an Oliver Jackson (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) groundout. 

With a two-run first inning, the Pack gave Lazcano a 2-0 cushion entering his second inning of work. He quieted the Grizzlies for the next two frames.

Sauceda scored again on a Bregar single in the bottom of the third. The freshman had reached base on an error. Bregar's second RBI of the day made it 3-0.

After Bregar got caught stealing, Jackson walked. Up next, Snyder blasted a home run over the fence in left-center. Snyder's first homer made it a 5-0 lead.

The Pack continued to pour it on in the third. Manny Menocal (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) doubled. A pair of walks to Brandon Castaneda (Sr., Azusa, Calif.) Beau Cebulski (Sr., Las Animas, Colo.) loaded the bases. Menocal came home on a RBI groundout by Francis Griffin (Sr., Oakland, Calif.) .

Jordan Godman (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) plated Castaneda and Cebulski with a two-out single.  Godman stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. The Pack's leadoff hitter came around on a Sauceda single.

CSU-Pueblo sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven runs in the third. The Pack chased Adams State's starter Ty Gavin midway through the frame as they took a 9-0 lead into the fourth.

Adams State answered with two in frame number four. The Pack quickly responded in the bottom half. Snyder smacked his second bomb of the game to right field. Menocal followed suit, cranking his second hit of the day and would eventually score on a RBI groundout by Cebulski that made it 11-2.

Menocal finished 2-for-4 on the day with two runs scored.  He flashed the leather in the third inning with a leaping catch on a line drive.

The Grizzlies got one back in the fifth. Lazcano departed after five innings of work. He surrendered three runs on eight hits. Lazcano struck out five and did not issue a walk.

One more came around for the Pack in the bottom of the sixth. Jackson drew a walk. Snyder followed with a double. Jackson would score on a Castaneda ground out.

The Pack tacked on two more in the bottom of the eighth. Mike DeHerrera (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) came off the bench with a triple to center. The next batter, David Gunther (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M), clubbed a double of his own to drive in DeHerrera. Gunther would eventually score on an error that allowed the inning to continue.

Tanner Wilde (Jr., St. George, Utah) took the mound for the Pack in the ninth. With a runner on and two out, Spencer Daniels (Jr., Saugus, Calif.) made a diving catch on a sharp line drive to end the game ad give the Pack a 14-3 win and the victory in the rubber match of the series.

CSU-Pueblo baseball battles the University of Nebraska-Kearney in a weekday matinee, Wednesday at Rawlings Field. First pitch will be at 1 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for two but was moved up an hour to start at 1 p.m.
