Pack dispatches Adams State for 20th win

Box Score

ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 12, 2016) It took just 24 games for the Colorado State University-Pueblo women's basketball team to reach the 20-win plateau. The Pack outscored Adams State University 41-29 to pull away with a 66-52 victory Friday. With 20 wins in 24 games, the 2015-16 Pack became the fastest team to reach 20 wins in program history.

Coaching in his 500th collegiate game, Jim Turgeon guided the Pack to victory. Turgeon's stifling defense limited the Grizzlies to 32.1 percent from the field as he won his 334th game and improved his winning percentage to 66.8 percent.

Molly Rohrer (Fr. Greenwood Village, Colo.) continued to make a case for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year with five blocks, matching a career high. Rohrer also scored 10 points and dealt out three assists.

Tuileisu Anderson (So., Vancouver, Wash) led the Pack with 12 points, making 4-of-10 from the field and 3-of-3 from the line. Anderson also grabbed two steals and a career-high eight rebounds.

After missing the Pack's last game, Lauren Heyn (Fr., Loomis, Calif.) returned with an impact. Heyn scored 10 points in 16 minutes off the bench, including eight in the second half. The freshman knocked down 5-of-6 from the field.

Ashley Piper (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds. Defensively, Piper rejected a shot and swiped two steals.

The two teams kept it close in the first quarter, with the Pack carrying an 11-9 advantage into the second. CSU-Pueblo started the second with a 10-2 run that allowed them to take a 21-11 lead with 6:22 left in the first half.

Adams State answered. The Grizzlies went on a run of their own to trim the lead to 25-23 at halftime. CSU-Pueblo limited the Grizzlies to 26.7 percent shooting from the field in the first half.

A 9-2 run to begin the second half helped the Pack put some distance between themselves and the Grizzlies. Adams State would not get any closer than they were at halftime.

Shannon Patterson (So., Pueblo, Colo.) came off the bench with a fury in the third. Patterson scored the Pack's final seven points of the frame as CSU-Pueblo held a 48-39 lead after three.

Much like they did in the third, the Pack began the final quarter with a 9-2 run over the first 2:15 of the quarter. Four points from Heyn during this run helped the Pack build the lead to 16.

CSU-Pueblo pushed the lead to 17 several times in the fourth.  They would eventually pull away with a 66-52 win.

The Pack made all seven of their free throws in the second half. Maddie Beagley (Jr. Russell, Kan.) grabbed six boards off the bench for CSU-Pueblo.

The ThunderWolves will play their final road game of the regular season Saturday when they visit Fort Lewis College at 5:30 p.m. CSU-Pueblo returns to Massari Arena Friday, Feb. 20 to play Colorado Christian University at 5:30 p.m.
