Box Score

PUEBLO, Colo.. (February 12, 2016)–  In their 2016 home opener, the Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball team shut out Adams State University to earn a 3-0 win. Five Pack pitchers combined to limit the Grizzlies to just four hits and nine total base runners as they blanked Adams State to move to 2-2 on the young season.

Brandon Conlin (Jr., Norco, Calif.) spun a brilliant six-inning performance in his second start of the season. Conlin  (1-1)earned the win by keeping the Grizzlies scoreless and allowing just two hits and three walks through his six innings of work.

Oliver Jackson (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.)  sparked the Pack's offensive attack with two RBIs. Jackson slugged two hits in two trips and reached base twice via a walk.

The game remained scoreless early as Conlin and Kyle Godfrey engaged in a pitcher's dual through the first four innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Godfrey exited the game and the Pack offense woke up.

Beau Cebulski  (Sr., Las Animas, Colo.) walked courtesy of Dylan Sherry. Cebulski advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Francis Griffin (Sr., Oakland, Calif.)

With Cebulski on second and two outs, Gilbert Sauceda (Fr., Indio, Calif.) knocked home the Pack's first run on a single up the middle. The Pack took a 1-0 lead into the sixth.

The RBI was Sauceda's third of the season. He finished the day 1-for-2 with two walks and his first collegiate stolen base. Sauceda owns a .556 on-base percentage through his first four collegiate games.

After another scoreless inning from Conlin, the Pack offense erupted in the sixth. Dominick Bregar (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) led off the inning with a single. Two batters later, Manny Menocal (Sr. Las Vegas, Nev.) earned a free pass.

Jackson stepped in and clobbered a triple into the gap.  Jackson's three-bagger plated both Bregar and Menocal and gave the Pack a 3-0 lead.

Following the Pack's offensive outburst in the sixth, Conlin turned it over to the bullpen. Kevin Megyeri (R-So., Colorado Springs, Colo.)  and reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Week, Tyler Rich (Sr., Colton, Calif.) shut down the Grizzlies in the seventh.

Jorge Venegas (Jr., Las Lunas, N.M.) entered the game in he eighth. Venegas allowed a hit but prevented any Grizzly from crossing the plate.

In the ninth, the Pack turned to Josh Nuernberg (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.). Nuernberg closed the door with two strikeouts in the ninth to record the Pack's first save of the season.

Even though the game did not count as a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest, the Pack still sent their RMAC rivals to a 0-4 record.

The Pack will continue their three-game series with the Grizzlies Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rawlings Field. Game two of this series will continue the Pack's eight game homestand.
