Arrieta's season-high 16 leads Pack past Chadron

Box Score

CHADRON, Neb. (January 3, 2016) – The No.17 Colorado State University-Pueblo women's basketball team knocked off the Chadron State College Eagles 71-60. With their 10-game win streak snapped one day earlier, the Pack (11-2, 6-1 RMAC) bounced back with their 19th consecutive win over the Eagles (3-8, 3-4 RMAC).

Dee Arrieta (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.) scored a season high 16 points. She also corralled seven rebounds and two steals.  Arrieta sank 4-of-6 from downtown and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe.

CSU-Pueblo drilled 7-of-19 (36.3 percent) from 3-point land. The Pack also held the rebounding advantage 49-42.

Chadron hit 47.1 percent of their shots in the first quarter, while the Pack only made 26 percent of its shots. This allowed the Eagles to carry an 18-17 lead into the second quarter. Maddie Beagley (Jr., Russell, Kan.) came off the bench with three points and three rebounds in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, an 11-5 run put the Pack in front 28-23 with 6:45 left in the first half. A duo of 3-pointers from Arrieta and Molly Rohrer (Fr., Greenwood Village, Colo.)  helped the Pack start the second on fire. However, after Chadron called a timeout, the Eagles bounced back with a 12-6 run for the rest of that quarter that allowed them to hold a 35-34 lead at intermission.

Arrieta and Tuileisu Anderson (So., Vancouver, Wash.) led the Pack with nine points in the first half. The Pack drained 6-of-15 (40 percent) from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes.

Rohrer took over in the second half with six points in the third quarter. The freshman also added two of her four blocks in the third as the Pack jumped ahead 53-51 after three.

The Pack began the fourth quarter with a 7-1 run in the first four minutes that pushed their lead to eight. CSU-Pueblo rode the momentum of this run to a 71-60 victory.

Rohrer finished with 15 points and four blocks. The freshman made 7-of-15 from the field and grabbed five rebounds for the Pack. Anderson ended her afternoon with 15 points as well.

The Pack will return to Massari Arena Jan. 8-9 when they open a four-game home stand with contests against New Mexico Highlands University  and Western New Mexico University. Both games begin at 5:30 p.m.
