In a game which started Friday night, but was postponed to Saturday due to rain, the Pack tallied four runs on six hits, while the Mavericks notched nine runs on 14 hits. Both teams struggled a bit in the field as the ThunderWolves committed three errors and Colorado Mesa committed two miscues. The Mavericks left eight runners on base compared to seven runners left aboard for CSU-Pueblo.
Victor Soto (Sr., Benbrook, Texas) was saddled with the loss for the Pack to fall to 8-3 on the season. The starter went just 1 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on six hits. In total, CSU-Pueblo used seven pitchers. Mavericks' starting pitcher Matt Allen earned his seventh win of the season after giving up two runs on two hits in five innings of work.
Offensively, Dominick Bregar (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Manny Menocal (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) both recorded two hits to lead the ThunderWolves. Bregar added a RBI as did Shane Richins (Sr., Heber, Utah). Bregar, Menocal, Mike Wagner (Sr., Golden, Colo.) and Jordan Godman (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) all scored one run apiece.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game after scoring one run in the first inning, three more in the second and another in the fourth frame.
The ThunderWolves climbed back into the contest with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. With runners at the corners and one out in the inning, Bregar singled through the right side of the infield to put the Pack on the scoreboard. With Menocal at the plate, Wagner came home to score on a wild pitch to make it a 5-2 ball game. Menocal doubled to put runners at second and third still with just one out in the frame. A ground out by Richins and a throwing error by Colorado Mesa first baseman Jake Druce allowed Bregar and Menocal to score to pull CSU-Pueblo to within one, at 5-4.
The one-run deficit was as close as the ThunderWolves got the rest of the way as Colorado Mesa pulled away with two runs in the sixth and one each in the seventh and eighth innings to win the game, 9-4.
For his efforts in the tournament, Lawrence Chavez (Sr., Estancia, N.M.) was tabbed to the RMAC All-Tournament team. Chavez finished the three games with four hits in 10 at-bats, one RBI and one double.
