Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (May 8, 2015) ~ No. 2 seed Colorado State University-Pueblo broke out the bats in a 10-1 win over No. 4 seed Adams State University Friday in an elimination game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at Suplizio Field.
With the win, the ThunderWolves advance to face the loser of Friday's second game which features No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa against No. 3 seed MSU Denver.
The Pack up their season record to 39-13 overall, while Adams State concludes the year at 20-31 overall. CSU-Pueblo finishes with a 10-1 record this season against the Grizzlies.
After being held to no runs on just four hits in Thursday's loss against the Roadrunners, CSU-Pueblo tallied 10 runs on 12 hits, no errors and five runners left on base versus the Grizzlies. Adams State notched just one run on seven hits, no errors and seven runners left aboard.
Kolby Rimer (Sr., St. George, Utah) picked up the win for the Pack after coming on in relief in the fifth inning. Rimer ended up going 3 1/3 innings, gave up no runs on just two hits, walked none and struck out two. The win improves the right hander to 5-1 on the season.
Adams State starter J.D. Heredia was saddled with the loss after giving up two runs on five hits in six innings of work.
Five different players had a multiple-hit game for CSU-Pueblo. Jordan Godman (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.), Mike Wagner (Sr., Golden, Colo.), Shane Richins (Sr., Heber, Utah), Tyler Landrith (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) and Beau Cebulski (Jr., Las Animas, Colo.) each notched two hits. Cebulski had a game-high three RBIs all of which came on a three-run home run in the eighth inning. Godman also ripped a home run, a solo shot in the eighth inning. Godman finished the contest with three runs scored.
After scoreless innings in the first and second, the ThunderWolves broke through first with a run in the home half of the third inning. Landrith led off the frame with an infield single and then moved up to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Cebulski. Lawrence Chavez (Sr., Estancia, N.M.) drove in Landrith with a single to center field to give the Pack the 1-0 lead.
Adams State came back to tie the contest at one apiece in the top of the fifth inning on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.
CSU-Pueblo grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Godman laid down a bunt single to open the inning. Godman stole second base and then moved up to third on a ground out by Austin Mascorro (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.). Wagner followed with a single through the left side of the infield to plate Godman to put the Pack back in front, 2-1.
The ThunderWolves opened up a five-run lead with four runs in the seventh inning. Richins scored on a wild pitch to start the frame. Chris Ramsey (Sr., Westminster, Colo.) tallied the second run of the inning when he came home to score on a sacrifice fly out by Mascorro. Another wild pitch brought home Cebulski, before Wagner capped the scoring in the inning with a RBI single.
Leading 6-1, the Pack put the game away with four more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cebulski blasted his third home run of the season with two runners on base to give CSU-Pueblo a 9-1 lead. Two batters later, Godman pulled a deep home run over the right field wall. Godman's fourth home run of the season gave the ThunderWolves the final winning margin of 10-1.
