Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DENVER, Colo. (April 20, 2015) ~ The No. 13/14 Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball team finished off a series victory against Regis University with a doubleheader sweep Monday at Regis Baseball Field. The ThunderWolves downed the Rangers 7-4 in game one, before winning the night cap, 7-2, to take three-out-of-four games in the series.

The two victories improve the Pack's season record to 33-9 overall and 23-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests. The 33 wins are the most in a single season since the 2009 squad won 41 games. Regis drops to 16-25 overall, including a 10-20 mark in the conference.

In game one, the Pack scored seven runs on 12 hits, they committed one error and left five runners on base. The Rangers notched four runs on nine hits, played errorless baseball and stranded seven.

Victor Soto (Sr., Benbrook, Texas) tossed six effective innings en route to his seventh win of the season for CSU-Pueblo. The right hander allowed three runs on six hits, walked three and struck out four. Regis starter Nick DiPaola suffered the loss after going 4 1/3 innings and giving up seven runs on nine hits.

The ThunderWolves' No. 4, 5 and 6 hitters each had a multiple-hit game. Shane Richins (Sr., Heber, Utah) led the way with three hits, while Mike Wagner (Sr., Golden, Colo.) and Manny Menocal (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) had two hits apiece. Wagner drove in a game-high three runs as well. Dominick Bregar (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) crossed the plate a contest-best two times.

After scoreless innings in the first and second, the Pack broke through with four runs in the top of the third frame. Beau Cebulski (Jr., Las Animas, Colo.) doubled with one out and then came around to score on a single by Lawrence Chavez (Sr., Estancia, N.M.). Four batters later with the bases loaded, Wagner roped a bases-clearing triple to right field to give CSU-Pueblo a 4-0 advantage.

The ThunderWolves added another run in the top of the fourth inning on a RBI ground out by Chavez, extending their advantage to 5-0.

Regis struck for three runs in the home half of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to two, at 5-3.

CSU-Pueblo responded with a pair of runs in the next half inning. Menocal and Richins both had RBI singles as the visitors pushed their lead to four runs, at 7-3.

The three runs were all Regis was able to put up against Soto. Thomas Bevington (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) came on in relief of Soto and pitched two scoreless innings.

The Rangers managed one run in the bottom of the ninth against Pack reliever Ryan Masterson (Sr., Albany, Calif.), but it was not nearly enough as the ThunderWolves earned the 7-4 victory.

In the second game, CSU-Pueblo pushed across seven runs on 11 hits, played error-free baseball and left seven runners on base. The Rangers tallied two runs on six hits, committed one error and stranded eight base runners.

Tyler Rich (Jr., Colton, Calif.) picked up his fourth win of the season in just his second start of the year. The ThunderWolves' right hander went four innings, gave up two runs on four hits, walked three and struck out five. The CSU-Pueblo bullpen of Doug Finley (Sr., Bermuda Dunes, Calif.), Daniel Tessone (Jr., La Habra, Calif.) and Wyndam Williams (Sr., Golden, Colo.) combined to pitch three innings and give up no runs on just two hits, while striking out two and walking zero.

Regis' Kirby Schwein was saddled with the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

The ThunderWolves had five players tally two hits each and five players also notch one RBI each. Menocal was one of the players with two hits and one RBI. The third baseman also scored two runs. Tyler Landrith (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) recorded two hits, including his first triple of the season.

After scoreless innings in the first and second, the Pack scored the first runs of the game in the top of the third frame. Landrith led off the inning with a triple and later came around to score on a ground out by Jordan Godman (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.). Austin Mascorro (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.) followed Godman's ground out with a RBI single to plate Chavez and give CSU-Pueblo a 2-0 advantage.

The ThunderWolves doubled their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Cebulski knocked in a run with a single and then came around to score on a wild pitch.

Regis scored two runs in the home half of the fourth inning to cut the deficit in half, at 4-2, but that was all the Rangers managed to score against the Pack pitching staff.

CSU-Pueblo added three runs in the top of the fifth inning to make the final score 7-2. Menocal drove in a run and scored a run in the frame, while Richins also had a RBI base knock.

The ThunderWolves play their final road series of the season this weekend at New Mexico Highlands. The two squads will square off in a four-game set, beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
