DURANGO, Colo. (April 19, 2015 – by Michael Liptak) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse team closed out its two-game road trip Sunday with a 20-2 setback to Fort Lewis College in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference affair.
The loss drops the ThunderWolves to 4-11 overall and 1-5 in RMAC play, while the Skyhawks improved to 8-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference tilts.
Allye Webb (Fr., M, Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Alix Zierden (Fr., M, Elk River, Minn.) were the only members of the Pack to reach the back of the net. With her goal, Webb has scored in eight-straight matches and 14 of the ThunderWolves' 15 games this season. Tori Gray (Fr., M, Parker, Colo.) tied for a game-high in draw controls with the Skyhawks' Megan Longtain as both battled for four.
Fort Lewis' Jam Vertner led all players in scoring with four goals and two assists. The Skyhawks had a balanced attack as 11 total members earned goals.
As a team, the Skyhawks had the advantage across the board in shots, 33-8, ground balls, 21-10, and caused turnovers, 12-8.
The ThunderWolves fell in a hole early as the Skyhawks opened the contest on a 9-0 run through the first 10:32 of game play. Zierden broke the run 31 seconds for the Pack, scoring her 22nd goal of the season to make the score 9-1.
Fort Lewis remained aggressive to close out the first half and finished on a 4-0 run to lead 13-1 at intermission. The run carried over to the second half as another 9-0 run to led to an 18-1 advantage with 16:30 remaining in the game.
Webb broke the run two minutes later on a free position shot to cut the deficit to 16, at 18-2. The Skyhawks added two more goals to finish the contest for a final score of 20-2.
Up next, the ThunderWolves finish out their inaugural season as a program Saturday on the road against Regis University at 1 p.m.
