Pack extend winning streak to 10 after doubleheader sweep of MSU Denver

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 21, 2015) ~ The Colorado State University-Pueblo extended its season-long winning streak to 10 games after sweeping a doubleheader from Metro State University of Denver Saturday at Rawlings Field. Tyler Landrith (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) delivered the second walk-off hit in as many games to propel the ThunderWolves to a come-from-behind 6-5 win in game one. The Pack finished the sweep with a dominating 12-1 victory in the second contest.

With the two wins, CSU-Pueblo improves to 20-3 overall and 12-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. The 10-game winning streak is the longest since the 2006 squad strung together 14 consecutive victories. The Roadrunners drop to 9-11 overall and 4-7 in league tilts.

The ThunderWolves finished the game one with 15 hits, two errors and left 10 men on base, while the Roadrunners had nine hits, zero errors and left eight runners aboard.

Wyndam Williams (Sr., Golden, Colo.) picked up his second win in as many games to improve to 3-1 on the season. ThunderWolves' starter Kolby Rimer (Sr., St. George, Utah) went 4 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits.

Ryan Baca gave up the lead in the bottom of the ninth inning and was saddled with the loss to drop to 2-1 on the year.

Five players registered multiple hits for the Pack with Dominick Bregar (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) leading the way with a game-high three hits. Bregar added two RBIs as did catcher Beau Cebulski (Jr., Las Animas, Colo.).

The Roadrunners got to Rimer early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning on three hits.

After leaving three runners on base in the first two innings, CSU-Pueblo broke through with two runs in the bottom of the third frame. Jordan Godman (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) doubled to lead off the inning. The next batter, Austin Mascorro (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.), was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with nobody out. Bregar followed with a double into the left-center field gap to score Godman and Mascorro with the tying runs.

MSU Denver regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles to take a 4-2 advantage into the bottom of the frame.

The Pack got one of the runs back in their half of the fifth inning thanks to a RBI base knock through the right side by Mike Wagner (Sr., Golden, Colo.).

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Roadrunners tacked on a run in the top of the seventh frame to move in front 5-3.

CSU-Pueblo entered its last at bat trailing for the second game in a row, but just like Friday's game the Pack had some late-inning magic left in their tank. Manny Menocal (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) singled with one out and then moved to second on a two-out base hit by Shane Richins (Sr., Heber, Utah). Cebulski followed with a shot to the wall in the left-center field gap, scoring Menocal and Richins to tie the game at 5-5. Head coach Stan Sanchez sent Chris Ramsey (Sr., Westminster, Colo.) to pinch run for Cebulski and Landrith to pinch hit for Vigil. Sanchez's move paid off as Landrith ripped a pitch through the right side to score the speedy Ramsey from second base with the winning run.

In game two, the Pack outhit the Roadrunners, 14-3, but left 12 men on base.

Menocal went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with three runs and two RBIs and a home run. Lawrence Chavez (Sr., Estancia, N.M.) added two hits and a run, while Jake Berg-Rosenblatt (Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.) knocked in a game-high three runs.

Victor Soto (Sr., Benbrook, Texas) recorded the win for CSU-Pueblo to improve to 5-0 on the season. The starter went five innings, gave up one run on just two hits, walked four and struck out six.

Julian Garcia suffered the loss for the Roadrunners after tossing three innings and giving up five runs on five hits. 

The ThunderWolves posted a three-spot in the bottom of the second inning to take the early lead. Chavez drove in a run on a fielder's choice, before Godman delivered a two-out, two-run double into the gap in right-center field to give the home a team a 3-0 lead after two innings.

Menocal added to the Pack lead in the home half of the third inning with his second home run of the season. The third baseman ripped a two-run shot down the left-field line to increase the CSU-Pueblo lead to 5-0.

After a MSU Denver got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth, the ThunderWolves tacked on three runs in their half of the inning. Wagner had a RBI in the frame, while Fessel delivered a two-run single through the left side to make the score, 8-1, in favor of the Pack.

CSU-Pueblo tacked on two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to put a stamp on its 20th win of the season.

The Pack and Roadrunners conclude their four-game series Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Rawlings Field.
