Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 2, 2015) ~ The Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball team started the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on a high note, sweeping Regis University in a doubleheader Monday at Rawlings Field.

The two victories extend the ThunderWolves' winning streak to six games, which marks their longest winning streak since April 28-May11, 2013 when they won eight consecutive contests. The Pack improve to 10-2 overall and open RMAC play a perfect 2-0. Regis drops to 4-6 on the season and 0-2 in league tilts.

In game one, CSU-Pueblo pounded out 17 hits, including six extra base hits. Manny Menocal (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) and Mike Wagner (Sr., Golden, Colo.) recorded four hits apiece to pace the ThunderWolves. Menocal ripped his first home run of the season and fell a double shy of hitting for the cycle. Wagner, Austin Mascorro (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.) and Daniel Vigil (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) each had a team-best two RBIs.

Regis had seven hits in the contest, including two from Ryan Benedict.

On the hill, Pack starter Zac Wittmus (Sr., Brighton, Colo.) improved to 3-0 on the season after tossing six solid innings. The senior allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out a season-high eight batters and walking none.

Rangers' starter Nick DiPaola suffered the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season.

Regis tallied the first run of the contest to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

CSU-Pueblo responded with a run in the bottom half of the second frame, evening the score at 1-1. Menocal led off the inning with a triple into the right-centerfield gap. Two batters later, Beau Cebulski (Jr., Las Animas, Colo.) hit a hard shot to the left side that deflected off the third baseman's glove and into shallow leftfield for a RBI single.

Regis pushed across an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning to retake the lead, 2-1.

The ThunderWolves answered right back in their half of the fourth inning. Menocal once again led off the inning, this time launching his first home run of the season over the leftfield wall to even the score at 2-2. The Pack tacked on their second run of the inning on two-out triple off of the rightfield wall by Jordan Godman (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.). Mascorro followed with a single up the middle, plating Godman for a 4-2 CSU-Pueblo lead.

The Pack added to their lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning. With one out, Vigil worked a bases-loaded walk to push home Shane Fessel (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) with the home team's fifth run of the contest.

CSU-Pueblo tacked on another run in the sixth inning to extend its lead to 6-2. Dominick Bregar (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) led off the inning with a double into the leftfield corner. The next batter, Wagner, laced a single into right centerfield to drive home Bregar and give the ThunderWolves a four-run advantage.

For the fourth consecutive inning, the Pack tallied at least one run, pushing across two in the seventh frame. Mascorro singled home Godman and later scored on a RBI double by Wagner, giving CSU-Pueblo an 8-2 lead.

The ThunderWolves tacked on one more run in the eighth inning on a RBI single by Vigil. Gavin Brady (Jr., Golden, Colo.) scored on the play, giving the home team the final winning tally of 9-2.

In game two, the Pack outhit the Rangers, 9-7, and recorded their second errorless game of the season.

Godman, Lawrence Chavez (Sr., Estancia, N.M.) and Vigil each had two hits to lead CSU-Pueblo.

Doug Finley (Sr., Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) earned the win out of the bullpen for the home team. Finley worked out of a second and third jam in the sixth inning to pick up the win and improve to 3-0 on the season. Wyndam Williams (Sr., Golden, Colo.) tossed a scoreless seventh inning to record his fourth save of the season.

Regis relief pitcher Chris Quackenbush took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the year.

The ThunderWolves tallied the first run of the game courtesy of a two-out RBI single by Vigil. Chavez scored on the play, giving the home team the early 1-0 lead.

Regis responded in the next half inning, scoring a pair of two-out runs to take a 2-1 lead after 2.5 innings of action.

Just like they did in game one, the Pack matched Regis' run in the top of the third with one of their own in the bottom of the inning. With two outs and runners at first and second, Chavez hit a sharp grounder up the middle to score Bregar from second and even the score at two apiece.

After a pair of scoreless innings, the game remained tied heading into the last half of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Bregar bounced into a fielder's choice which scored Cebulski from third base. Wagner followed with a RBI single to right field to give the ThunderWolves an insurance run.

Leading 4-2, Williams entered the game in the top of the seventh inning. After a lead-off single, the ThunderWolves' closer retired the next three batters to close the door on a 4-2 CSU-Pueblo victory.

With Wednesday's nonconference doubleheader against Regis canceled, the ThunderWolves turn their attention to this weekend's series versus New Mexico Highlands University. The four-game set begins Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Rawlings Field.
