Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 13, 2015) – The No. 17 Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball team posted its 10th win in its last 11 games Friday, downing Adams State University, 10-6, in 10 innings at ASU Baseball Field.
With the victory, the ThunderWolves improve to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tilts. The Pack improve to 1-1 on the year in extra inning affairs. The loss drops Adams State to 6-9 on the season, including a 3-2 mark in league games.
Wyndam Williams (Sr., Golden, Colo.) gave up the lead in the ninth inning, but worked a scoreless 10th frame to earn the win for the Pack to improve to 1-1 on the season. Starter Zac Wittmus (Sr., Brighton, Colo.) recorded a no decision after tossing seven innings, giving up seven hits and two runs, while striking out a career-high 13 batters.
Challis Wright suffered the loss for the Grizzlies to fall to 0-1 on the year.
Three players, Dominick Bregar (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.), Manny Menocal (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) and Daniel Vigil (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), had three hits apiece to pace CSU-Pueblo at the plate. Bregar knocked in three runs, while Mike Wagner (Sr., Golden, Colo.) and Beau Cebulski (Jr., Las Animas, Colo.) each added two RBIs.
The ThunderWolves plated a run in their first at bat of the game. Godman led off the top of the first inning with a single to centerfield and then promptly swiped second base. Two batters later with one out and Godman at third base, Bregar ripped an RBI double to give the Pack a 1-0 advantage.
The Grizzlies evened the game at one apiece with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The score remained tied until the bottom of the fifth frame when Adams State tacked on its second run of the contest to take a 2-1 advantage.
The ThunderWolves scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Richins worked a bases-loaded walk to push home Wagner with the first tally of the frame. Cebulski followed with a two-run single to score Lawrence Chavez (Sr., Estancia, N.M.) and Menocal. The next batter, Vigil, drove in the fourth run of the inning to give the Pack a 5-2 advantage.
CSU-Pueblo tacked on a run in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Wagner, extending its lead to 6-2.
Adams State tied the game thanks to a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning and another two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth frame.
In extra innings, the ThunderWolves plated four runs in the top of the 10th frame to take a 10-6 lead. Bregar delivered a two-run single in the inning, while Wagner drove home one with a single of his own.
Williams held Adams State scoreless in the bottom of the 10th to secure the 10-6 victory for CSU-Pueblo.
The Pack and Grizzlies resume their four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday. Game one of the twin bill is slated to begin at noon.
