ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 14, 2015) ~ The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's basketball team won for the sixth time in its last seven games Saturday, defeating Adams State University, 68-54.
The victory runs the ThunderWolves' winning streak versus the Grizzlies to eight games, while head coach Kip Drown ups his record to 19-2 all-time against Adams State. CSU-Pueblo now sits at 14-8 overall and remains in third place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with a 12-6 league mark. Adams State drops to 3-19 overall and 3-15 in conference tilts.
The Pack had an efficient shooting night, knocking down 28-of-57 (49.1 percent) shots, including 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) shooting in the second half. CSU-Pueblo held the edge in rebounding, 41-30, and assists, 20-11.
The ThunderWolves' Dee Arrieta (Jr., Pueblo West, Colo.) had a game-high 20 points with 18 of those points coming from beyond the three-point line. Arrieta also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Katie Nehf (Sr., Broomfield, Colo.) and Ashley Piper (Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) both scored in double figures for the Pack. Nehf tallied 12 points, while Piper added 10.
Emilie Klint and Lena Jaycox tied for the team-lead with 11 points each for Adams State.
The Grizzlies erased an early 7-5 deficit with a 9-2 run to pull ahead 14-9 with 6:53 elapsed in the opening half.
A 10-2 scoring spurt by the ThunderWolves moved the visitors in front, 19-16, at the 9:23 mark of the first half. Emily Dungey (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) capped the run with the first of her three opening-stanza triples.
After an Adams State basket made the score 19-18 at the 8:19 mark, CSU-Pueblo closed the half on a 15-6 scoring run to take a 34-24 lead into the intermission.
The Grizzlies pulled to within six points, at 36-30, early in the second half. The Pack quickly regained control of the game, using a 14-4 spurt over a span of 4:36 to extend their advantage to 50-34 with 13:06 left in the contest.
The ThunderWolves maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the contest en route to the 68-54 victory.
CSU-Pueblo returns to the hardwood for its final home weekend of the season, playing host to Black Hills State and Chadron State, Friday and Saturday, respectively.
