Pack Men's tennis goes 1-1 Friday; Women fall in two matches

PHOENIX, Ariz. (February 13, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's tennis team went 1-1 Friday in Phoenix, Ariz. The Pack defeated Glendale Community College 7-2 before falling 6-3 to Arizona Christian University. 

The CSU-Pueblo women's tennis team suffered a pair of loses Friday. The ThunderWolves lost 9-0 to Arizona Christina before falling 7-2 against Westmont College.

Freshman Steven Alcala (Pueblo, Colo.) went 4-0 on the day to guide the ThunderWolves. Playing at No. 4 singles, Alcala won 6-1, 6-0 against his GCC opponent and playing No. 2 doubles with freshman Luke Lipinski (Austin, Tex.), the pair won 8-4. He helped earn two of the three points for the Pack in the loss to ACU, winning at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-3 and at No. 2 doubles with Lipinski, 8-3.

Aided by two doubles victories, Lipinski went 3-1 on the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win against GCC. Playing at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectfully, freshman Brenden Sullinger (Pueblo, Colo.) and junior Daniel Hawk (Pueblo West, Colo.) went 2-2 on the day with a singles and No. 3 doubles win against Glendale CC.

On the women's side, No. 6 singles Mariana Hosomi (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up a victory (6-1, 6-1) against Westmont, while the No. 3 doubles pair of Hosomi and junior Teresa Haro (Monument, Colo.) also won (8-4).

Both teams are in action Saturday with two matches each. The men battle San Diego City College at 9 a.m. and Mesa Community College at 4 p.m. The women will face Dixie State at 9 a.m. and Mesa CC at 4 p.m.
