BILLINGS, Mont. (GoThunderWolves.com – Apr. 4, 2014) — Marcelo Chaparro (So., Bogota, Colombia) won all four of his matches leading the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's tennis team to a split of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches on Friday here at the Montana State University-Billings Tennis Bubble.
The ThunderWolves dropped the host Yellowjackets, 6-3 in the morning before falling 5-4 to the region's fifth ranked Metro State University Roadrunners in an afternoon neutral-court battle. The split left the Pack with a 6-10 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference play.
In the morning, the ThunderWolves took a 2-1 lead after the doubles and then won four singles matches to defeat the Yellowjackets, who fell to 2-5 and 0-1 in the RMAC.
Chaparro and Sergio Avella (Fr., Sogamoso, Colombia) won their No. 3 doubles match, 8-2. Chaparro then claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win in No. 6 singles match against Danill Gorkov. Avealla, also won a 3-set battle with Eric De Romas at No. 3 singles. Emir Machado (Fr., Caracas, Venezuela) and Joao De Silveria (Fr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) were also singles winners.
In the afternoon, the ThunderWolves were down 2-1 after doubles play before Trung Le (Jr., Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam), De Silveria and Chaparro won their No. 4, 5 and 6 singles matches. However, the Roadrunners claimed wins in the top three singles flights to squeak out the win, which allowed them to improve to 9-7 overall and to 2-0 in the RMAC.
CSU-Pueblo will now return home to close out the regular season at home against Western New Mexico and Colorado Mesa on Apr. 12 and 13, respectively.
