PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com – Apr. 12, 2014) — Teresa Haro (So., Monument, Colo.) continued her strong form claiming Colorado State University-Pueblo's only singles point after the Pack had taken a 2-1 lead through the doubles against Western New Mexico University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's tennis action Saturday at Pueblo Central High School. However, that was not enough for the ThunderWolves, who fell 6-3 to the Mustangs as the visitors claimed five of the six possible points in singles play.
In the process, CSU-Pueblo fell to 7-10 overall and to 2-2 in the RMAC while the Mustangs won their fourth straight match to improve to 4-18 overall and to 4-1 in the RMAC.
Haro, who has now won five straight singles matches, had teamed with Brittani Trevithick (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) for an 8-3 No. 3 doubles win over the Mustangs' Marissa Aguirre and Claudia Osuna. Meanwhile, Brooke Trevithick (So., Pueblo, Colo.) and Gia Montoya (So., Pueblo, Colo.) also claimed a No. 2 doubles win over Dena Irvin and Diamond Morrill by an 8-4 margin helping to give the Pack the early lead.
However, the Mustangs rolled in the singles winning five matches in straight sets while Haro jumped out to a 6-1, 5-0 lead before Irvin retired in the No. 5 singles matches. Haro is now 8-1 in the No. 5 position this year is a perfect 4-0 in RMAC matches.
Brooke Trevithick put up the best fight of the ThunderWolves' other singles players, falling 6-3, 7-5 to Morrill in the No. 4 match.
The ThunderWolves will now host Colorado Mesa in their final RMAC match of the regular season on Sunday morning at Pueblo City Park. Weather permitting, that match is slated for a 9 a.m. start, moved up two hours from the original start time of 11 a.m.
