PUEBLO, COLO. (Gothunderwolves.com - Mar. 16, 2014) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves split a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader against the Adams State University Grizzlies to take 3-of-4 in the weekend home stand.
After taking a 10-5 win the first 9-inning game, the Pack came close to completing the sweep, before ultimately falling 7-6 in a 7-inning second game at Rawlings Field.
In the second game, a
Scott Hoyt (Sr. Longmont. Calif.) assist to gun down Grizzlies' Drew Wold at home to end the top of the sixth, followed by a Hoyt leadoff double in the bottom half of the inning, would spark a furious comeback attempt that saw the ThunderWolves score five runs in the inning, reducing the Grizzlies' lead to one.
After giving up an insurance run, that proved to be invaluable for the Grizzlies in the top of the seventh, the ThunderWolves would get within one run again in the bottom half of the the inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Eddie Williams (Sr. Castle Rock, Calif.) that plated
Chris Ramsey (Jr. Westminster, Colo.). However, Challis Wright would get a strikeout to end the game with runners on second and third.
In the loss, the ThunderWolves saw a 5-game home winning streak, and a 4-game streak of scoring 10 or more runs end.
Earlier in the day, the Pack rode a 6-run third inning en route to a 10-5 victory.
After surrendering two runs in the top of the fourth, the Pack answered in the bottom of the fourth, bringing nine men to the plate, scoring six runs, highlighted by a two RBI double by Evan Kenebrew (Sr. Colorado Springs, Colo.).
Kenebrew finished the game 3-for-5, with two doubles and two runs scored
Lonny Schoon (Sr. Colorado Springs, Colo.) improved to 2-1 pitching on the season, going six innings, surrendering five earned runs on 10 hits, striking out four.
The ThunderWolves will look to improve their 10-10 (6-4 RMAC) record next Friday (Mar. 21) at Regis, at 3 p.m.
