LAKEWOOD, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com – Mar. 14, 2014) — Thanks to a doubles sweep and wins in the third through sixth singles matches for the second time in three days, the Colorado State University-Pueblo women's tennis team claimed a 7-2 win at Colorado Christian University in both team's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener, Friday afternoon here at Lakewood Park.
The ThunderWolves used the same exact process on Wednesday in a home win over Wartburg (Iowa) and are now 3-1 this spring while improving to 5-6 overall. The Cougars fell to 3-2 overall and to 0-1 in the RMAC this spring.
In Friday's win, the Pack got out to a quick start as they took all three doubles points before Sarah Coy (Fr., Pueblo West, Colo.), Brooke Trevithick (So., Pueblo, Colo.), her sister Brittani (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) and reigning RMAC Player of the Week Teresa Haro (So., Monument, Colo.) all won singles matches.
Coy and Toni Alvarez (So., Pueblo, Colo.) posted a 9-8 win over CCU's Katy Balli and Jennifer Perkins at No. 1 doubles while Gia Montoya (So., Pueblo, Colo.) and Brooke Trevithick won 8-5 at the No. 2 doubles position over Elizabeth Vertin and Cassie Greco. Meanwhile, Brittani Trevithick and Haro won 8-3 in the No. 3 doubles spot against Kara Williams and Cameron Shelby.
Haro then won her fifth straight singles match crushing Shelby, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. Meanwhile, Brittani Trevithick (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) took a 5-7, 6-1, 10-6 win at No. 6 singles over Amy Siemers to extend her singles winning streak to four while moving to 5-2 in dual meets.
Coy and Brooke Trevithick had a little easier time as Coy took out Balli, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while Trevithick posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Vertin at No. 4 singles.
CCU's two points came from Kara Williams and Perkins in the No. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively. Williams defeated Alvarez 6-2, 6-2 while Perkins squeaked out a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Montoya.
The ThunderWolves will now return home to the Pueblo City Park courts for the rest of the month to play three non-conference matches, a stretch that starts next Friday (Mar. 21) against Newman (Kan.)
