Pack bounce back to split RMAC-opening twin-bill at Metro State.

DENVER (GoThunderWolves.com – Feb. 28, 2014) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball team overcame a 2-0 deficit in the second game and snapped what had become a 5-game slide, posting a 5-2 win over host Metro State University in the second game of a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader played Friday at Auraria Field.  The win, which followed a 10-0 loss to the Roadrunners in the first game, allowed the Pack to salvage a doubleheader split while moving to 5-7 overall and to 1-1 in RMAC play.

The Roadrunners, playing for the first time in nearly a month, moved to 2-4 overall and to 1-1 in the league.  The teams will square off in another twin-bill on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.

Mike Fabrizio (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) earned the win on the mound for the Pack as he allowed just a single earned run in five innings of work to improve to 1-1 on the campaign.

Meanwhile, Evan Kenebrew (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI double to lead the Pack offensively.  Dominick Bregar (So., Pueblo, Colo.) also went 2-for-4.

After the Roadrunners had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 7-inning game, the Pack scored twice in the fourth to tie the game before a Bregar lead-off single and Kenebrew double gave the Pack the lead for good.  Mario Sanchez (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) then plated Kenebrew with a 1-out single while a Bregar single and ensuing Roadrunner error gave CSU-Pueblo a 5-2 lead in the sixth.

Kolby Rimer (Jr., St. George, Utah) then closed out the win for the Pack allowing just a walk in his two innings of relief work.

In the first game, the ThunderWolves fell victim to the Roadrunner's big bats as Gavin Purvis and Mitch Gibbons combined for three extra-base hits and nine RBI from the third and fourth spots in the lineup.  Gibbons had a triple and a homer while Purvis hit a double while driving in four on his 2-for-4 effort.

Meanwhile, Danny Westerberg and Reilly Mau were the table-setters as they went a combined 5-for-8 in the top No. 1 and 2 spots of the lineup.

Kenebrew was 2-for-4 for the pack while Nick Hammett baffled the rest of the Pack hitters, who only had one other hit.  Hammett allowed just four walks and had three punch-outs in his 107-pitch, 9-inning shutout.
