GUNNISON, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 10, 2014) - CSU-Pueblo used a strong first half to record a 70-54 win over Western State Friday night.
The ThunderWolves held a commanding 42-21 lead over Western State at halftime, keyed in large part by a 28-6 run over the final 10 minutes of the first half that allowed the contest to practically end before the second half.
On the back of a 41-point loss to Colorado Mesa Thursday that saw the ThunderWolves commit 17 turnovers, CSU-Pueblo turned the ball over only nine times. To make its situation even better, the ThunderWolves made the calculated risk of playing more aggressive, going for the ball while trading off the inevitable higher amount of fouls. The risk worked, as the Pack gathered 10 steals as the Mountaineers committed a total of 18 turnovers.
The Pack was led by Paige Ramm (Sr., Prescott, Ariz.), who had a game-high 17 points. Katie Nehf (Jr., Broomfield, Colo.) also had a strong night down low for the Pack, scoring 12 points while coming through with four steals.
The ThunderWolves now return home for a showdown with Colorado Christian next Friday followed by a contest with Colorado School of Mines next Saturday.
