GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 6, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo was an errant wild pitch away from taking two from 8th-ranked Colorado Mesa Saturday, losing a 7-6 in the opener before winning 12-5 in the nightcap.
The ThunderWolves got a great pitching performance from Mike Fabrizio (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) in the late game as he went five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits against the high-octane Colorado Mesa offense.  He benefitted from a powerful Pack offense that torched the Mavericks for 12 runs, which included three-hit days from Mario Sanchez (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.) and Chase Lacomb (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.), the latter of which launched his second home run of the season in a four-run sixth inning.  Scott Hoyt (Jr., Longmont, Colo.) also turned in his second home run of the series.
In the early game, CSU-Pueblo overcame a 4-0 Colorado Mesa lead to plate six runs in the top of the 7th, carrying a lead into the final half-inning.  But three Maverick runs spoiled the Pack comeback as Mesa claimed a 7-6 win.
CSU-Pueblo will look for the series split Sunday when it finishes its series with Mesa at Grand Junction's Suplizio Field.
