Lacomb's grand slam propels Pack past Highlands

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 28, 2013) - Looking to steal a second game from the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys in a pivotal conference game, second baseman Chase Lacomb (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to propel the Pack to a 6-4 victory over the Cowboys.

Overall Lacomb had a huge day, going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs from the top of the lineup. One of his three runs scored came in the first inning after he hit a deep double to right center. Dominick Bregar (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) drove in Lacomb after reaching on a fielder choice two at-bats later.

The Cowboys responded by tying the game in the second inning before regaining the lead in the third inning with back-to-back RBI singles by Jarred Middleton and Thomas Lyons.

After giving up the lead starting pitcher Lonny Schoon (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was solid the rest of the way, striking out five batters in eight innings of work. Schoon improved his record to 4-4 with Dillon Given (Jr., Salinas, Calif.) picking up his second save on the season.

The Pack scored one run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Cameron Buckles (Jr., Parker, Colo.), before Lacomb broke the game wide open in the sixth with his grand slam down the right field line.

The Cowboys threatened in the in the seventh after an RBI single by Jordan Goliat cut the lead to 6-4. A mound visit helped Schoon settle down and work out of a jam that saw runners at first and second. The next Cowboys batter ended any chance of a rally when he lined into a double play.

The Pack will close out the regular season with a four game series against Adams State beginning Friday. Friday's game is apart of the Pack the Park promotional game that will feature a youth clinic before the start of the game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
