LAS VEGAS, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 26, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo faced a hot pitcher in New Mexico Highlands' Oscar Almeida Friday, mustering just five hits as it lost 5-1.
In its previous meeting with Almeida and the Cowboys, the Pack had mixed returns. During its series March 8-10, the ThunderWovles faced Almeida three times, getting sat down as he notched two saves while torching him for two runs on four hits as he blew a save but backed into an eventual win after the Cowboys came back to win.
But Friday, the ThunderWolves couldn't touch him as he struck out 11 ThunderWolves. Only one ThunderWolf, Dominick Bregar (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.), was solid at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run - his first collegiate homer.
Jeremiah Struble (Sr., Divide, Colo.) had one of his tougher outings on the mound, running up to 120 pitches as he lasted just five innings and struck out only one batter, a season-low.
The ThunderWolves, now trailing Highlands by two games in the RMAC Plains Division standings, will continue its series tomorrow with a noon doubleheader.
