DENVER, Colo. - (GoThunderWolves.com - April 20, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo rode excellence from all three phases of the game Saturday, cruising to a doubleheader sweep over Metro State, winning 10-1 and 8-5.
The ThunderWolves allowed a total of just 13 hits over 16 total innings, but even more impressive, allowed a total of just two walks over that span while also allowing no errors.
In the first game, Jeremiah Struble (Sr., Divide, Colo.) tossed perhaps his most dominant game of the season, going seven innings and allowing just five hits, striking out nine and walking none.
By the time he left the game, the Pack was up 9-1, thanks to a 14-hit performance that eventually churned out 10 runs. Three ThunderWolves turned in multi-hit games in the first game, led by a 2-for-3 performance leadoff hitter Chase Lacomb (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.), who scored two runs and drove in another two.
In the first game, however, Scott Hoyt (Jr., Longmont, Colo.) went 0-for-4, his first hitless game since Mar. 3 (also against Metro State). His 23-game hit streak, one of the longest in school history, was halted.
In the second game, reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Week Mike Fabrizio (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) claimed his fourth straight win since returning from injury, tossing a complete-game seven-hitter, striking out seven.
At the plate, Lacomb was again hot with another two-hit performance while Michael Wagner (So., Golden, Colo.) cleaned up from the clean-up spot, turning in six total bases as he went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and three runs scored.
CSU-Pueblo will aim for a series win and hopefully a sweep when the series continues at Metro State's Auraria Field in Denver on Sunday.
