GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 20, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo won a consolation match at the RMAC Tournament Saturday, but not before losing its opening match as it finished 5th.

The ThunderWolves couldn't overcome the proverbial thorn in their side, Metro State, who handed the Pack a defeat for the third time this year in the opening round of the RMAC Tournament, beating back the Pack 5-2.

It was slim doubles losses that got the Pack off on the wrong foot, as losses at one- and two-doubles by margins of 8-5 and 8-6 left a bad taste in CSU-Pueblo's mouths.  At three-doubles, Alexandro Moncayo-Samperio (Jr., Veracruz, Mexico) and Shane Nicholls (Fr., Winnipeg, Canada) were dominant, though, setting the Pack off with an 8-1 win going into singles play.

Moncayo-Samperio stayed hot by disposing of John Qualls in straight sets at four-singles, but a key match broke for the Roadrunners that contributed greatly to their victory.  At five-singles, Tom Chavez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) saw his 6-4 first-set win melt away as Jonathan Evangelista claimed wins in the final two sets to help clinch Metro State's win.

The Pack regrouped, however, and was dominant in the consolation match against Colorado Christian to determine the RMAC's fifth-place finisher, winning 5-1. 

Only a loss at two-doubles tarnished what was shaping up to be a perfect day.  Again, Moncayo-Samperio went 2-0, winning at three-doubles and in straight sets at four-singles to lead the Pack.

A senior-laden team, the ThunderWolves' season ends as it bids goodbye to three seniors: Chavez, Alex Lesiuk (Sr., Winnipeg, Canada) and Anthony Breitenbach (Sr., Tigard, Ore.).
