PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 13, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo was rolling for one game and flat in another, splitting a doubleheader with Colorado School of Mines, winning 6-1 before falling 9-3.
The first game was all about the performance turned in by pitcher Mike Fabrizio (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.). A 2012 All-conference pick and the Pack's number-one starter to begin the season, he was been solid since returning to the rotation following a shoulder injury. He won his third straight start with downright dominant stuff, striking out six and allowing no earned runs as only a 6th-inning error spoiled his shutout bid.
Offensively, it was another Pueblo-native, Dominick Bregar (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) that stole the show. Bregar accounted four seven total bases, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, and three RBI. The game set a collegiate best for Bregar for most total bases and marked his third game of three hits or more.
In the second game, though, the Pack did a 180 as Mines pitcher Blake Dunham solved the Pack, no-hitting the ThunderWolves through five innings and allowing just five hits over a seven-inning, complete game effort.
The only ThunderWolf that wasn't fooled was Michael Wagner (So., Golden, Colo.), who went 2-for-3 with a booming 7th inning home run as well as a double in the 5th.
With the split, CSU-Pueblo keeps pace with RMAC Plains Division leader, New Mexico Highlands, which split Saturday with Colorado Christian. The ThunderWolves, currently 1-1/2 games behind the Cowboys, will try to end its series with Mines on a high notes Sunday with a nine-inning contest at noon.
