PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 12, 2013) - Jeremiah Struble (Sr., Divide, Colo.) tossed a 128-pitch masterpiece Friday as the ThunderWolves shut down Colorado School of Mines 4-2.
Struble struck out eight batters and gave up just six hits - all singles - as CSU-Pueblo zoomed through the nine-inning game in just over two hours.
While Struble was unflappable on the mound, the Pack batters got just enough key hits to be comfortably in control all game long.
In the third inning, CSU-Pueblo used a pair of Mines errors to load the bases, collecting its first runs on a two-run single by Mario Sanchez (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.). The Pack plated its third run later that inning on a wild pitch that scored Scott Hoyt (Jr., Longmont, Colo.).
The Pack rode that 3-0 lead until scoring its fourth run on an RBI single by Wade Beauvais (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) in the sixth inning, going up 4-1 at the time.
Mines posed its biggest threat in the 8th after scoring a run on a delayed steal of second that allowed its runner at third, Bobby Egeberg, to steal home. The Orediggers, however, saw its threat go up in smoke as the ThunderWolves engineered an exciting "strike 'em out, throw 'em out" double play as Struble fanned Charlie Basil while catching Nate Olinger napping on third, allowing Beauvais to fire a strike to pick him off and end the inning.
With the win, the ThunderWolves improve to 17-15 overall, and will look to rack up more wins as its series with the Orediggers continues Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
