PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - March 28, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo used a de-facto home field advantage Thursday to sweep a doubleheader from Colorado Christian in a "road game" at Pueblo's Runyon Field, winning 7-5 and 10-4.
Playing against Colorado Christian in a game originally scheduled for All-City Field in Denver, poor field conditions forced a relocation, and the most accessible park just happened to be in CSU-Pueblo's backyard - Runyon Field near downtown Pueblo. On familiar grounds, the ThunderWolves got effective pitching and ripped 24 hits over 16 total innings.
In the first game, CSU-Pueblo jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a pair of sacrifice flies and an RBI-double by Dominick Bregar (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.).
After Colorado Christian chipped away at the lead to cut the Pack advantage to 3-2, a two-run fifth, headlined by another Bregar RBI, this time a run-scoring single, and an RBI-double by Cameron Buckles (Jr., Parker, Colo.), put the ThunderWolves up 5-2.
Jeremiah Struble (Sr., Divide, Colo.) got his fourth win of the season by holding the Cougars back for the remainder of his appearance, pitching seven complete, allowing six hits and striking out five, leaving the game with a 7-2 lead. The Cougars would ding Pack relievers for a few more runs, but the ThunderWolves ultimately held on to win 7-5.
In the second game, the game was typified by a six-run 1st inning, which saw seven consecutive batters reach base safely as the Pack cranked out run after run. The exclamation point was put on the inning after a two-run single by Buckles and another two-run single by Wade Beauvais (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.).
The ThunderWolves would go up 10-0 in the 5th inning that saw four runs get plated in as many combinations as you can imagine, including a hit batsmen with the bases loaded, the elusive non-RBI double play that scored a run, and standard issue RBI hits from Cameron Hart (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.) and Brandon Evans (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.).
Colorado Christian would score four 5th inning runs to ultimately sit starting hurler Lonny Schoon (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), but not before he all but secured the win with a 5-1/3 innings pitched and five strikeouts.
