PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - March 22, 2013) - Fielding lapses and active Regis bats were the difference Friday as CSU-Pueblo dropped two in a doubleheader to the Rangers, losing 11-7 and 6-2.
CSU-Pueblo's day was defined by errors in the field, committing six overall compared to none for Regis, which entered Friday leading the RMAC in fielding. The low point for the Pack came in the third inning of the first game, which saw the Pack commit four errors in one inning as Jeremiah Struble (Sr., Divide, Colo.) allowed five runs, all unearned, as Regis took a 5-1 lead it would not relinquish.
In the second game, Regis sprinted to a lead by putting up three runs in the first inning. CSU-Pueblo couldn't put together enough rallies to close the deficit, but got exciting plays in the process nonetheless.
Curtis Cowell (Sr., Monrovia, Calif.) legged out an inside-the-park home run in the third inning while Scott Hoyt (Jr., Longmont, Colo.) fired a solo home run in the sixth inning. Hoyt had a solid day at the plate, going a combined 4-for-9 with 2 RBI.
CSU-Pueblo will seek to right the ship Saturday when the series resumes with another doubleheader with first pitch at noon.
