ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - March 17, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo excelled in all three phases of the game Sunday as it closed out the series in style with a 13-1 win over Adams State.
Behind a six-hit performance on the mound from Ryan Masterson (So., Albany, Calif.) and a 6-RBI game from Scott Hoyt (Jr., Longmont, Colo.), CSU-Pueblo showed no mercy in running roughshod over the Grizzlies.
The Pack immediately plated three runs in the top of the first inning, using Adams State mistakes go up 3-0. CSU-Pueblo used a walk, a balk, a wild pitch and two leadoff hits to mount the offensive and take the early lead.
In the fourth inning, CSU-Pueblo had a great two-out rally as a double by Mike Knueppel (Sr., Spencer, Iowa) was followed by a walk and a hit batsmen, setting up Hoyt's grand slam, the first by a ThunderWolf this season.
Later, in the sixth inning, the Pack produced another three runs, including another RBI for Hoyt as he capped a monster weekend in which he went 9-for-17 with four extra-base hits and 10 RBI, extending his hitting streak to nine games.
With the win, CSU-Pueblo gets back on the right side of .500, improving to 11-10 and 7-5 in RMAC play. Next week, the ThunderWolves return home for a four-game set with Regis.
