CANYON, Texas (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 9, 2013) - Senior Jeremiah Struble (Sr., Divide, Colo.) tossed a two-hit shutout Saturday, helping engineer a doubleheader split with West Texas A&M.
Struble set career-best by posting the two-hit complete game shutout, striking out nine batters, which is the second-most he's ever fanned in a game. He threw four innings of no-hit ball before surrendering a double to Parker Wood, and only allowed two more baserunners throughout the rest of the game.
Behind Struble, the ThunderWolves were workmanline at the plate, gathering 10 hits, but junior shortstop Mario Sanchez (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.) certainly brought a lot of flash, smashing two home runs, both solo shots, to give the Pack the needed offensive boost.
However, in the second game, the offensive boost was squarely in the hands of West Texas A&M. The Buffs rattled off 17 runs on 14 hits, culminating in a 10-run sixth inning. Starting pitcher Ryan Masterson (So., Albany, Calif.) avoided the onslaught, lasting three innings, giving up three runs on five hits.
The ThunderWolves will look to split the series as its four-gamer with West Texas A&M concludes Sunday with a nine-inning contest.
