CSU-Pueblo remains in first-place tie following sweep.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 6, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo captured its 14th and 15th wins in the past 16 games Friday, capturing a double-dip from Colorado Christian, winning 12-4 and 14-7.

The victories kept CSU-Pueblo on pace with Colorado Mesa atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, each tied with 18-5 conference records.

CSU-Pueblo used its tried and true formula to overwhelm the Cougars - big bats and effective starting pitching.

Friday's pitching performances, while far from perfect, were quality and kept a solid Colorado Christian lineup at bay all day long.  Game one starter Jeremiah Struble (Jr., Divide, Colo.) threw six innings, giving up four runs to claim his fourth win of the season.  He was followed up by Kyle Clemens (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), who threw four innings, also giving up four runs to improve to 4-1.

The Pack pitchers were helped out by stellar hitting up and down the lineup, specifically from Jovany Valenzuela (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.).  The Pack slugger went yard twice in Friday's opening game, even adding a triple to his 3-for-5, 5-RBI line.  In the second game, despite not hitting another out of the park, he went a solid 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. 

J.T. Greenhood (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) kept his hit streak alive, improving to 21 games while going a combined 3-for-7 with four runs scored.  Curtis Cowell (Jr., Monrovia, Calif.) also came through a big game in the late contest, going 4-for-4 while both Chase Lacomb (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) and Vinnie Mattivi (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) each reported three-hit games.

CSU-Pueblo, now surging at 21-12 overall, will go for the sweep Saturday as the series wraps up with a 12 p.m. start at Rawlings Field.  Saturday also marks the inaugural "Strike Out Cancer" event, in which CSU-Pueblo partners with the St. Mary-Corwin Breast Center of Excellence to raise funds for cancer awareness.
