GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.-(GoThunderWolves.com-April 6, 2012)- The CSU-Pueblo Men's Tennis team once again faced adversity but this time the result is different. Down to the last set of the last match, winner takes all; the ThunderWolves got their break and escaped with a 5-4 win over Colorado Mesa.
Securing not only the win at number-six singles but also the match for the Pack was Tom Chavez (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.). Chavez pocketed the first set, winning six games to four. However, in set two, the fun began. In a battle right down to tie-break points, Chavez pulled out the win, seven-to-six (2) and the team victory.
Posting other wins in the singles for the ThunderWolves were Saul Shrom (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) at number-three (6-1,6-4) and Anthony Brietenbach (Jr., Tigard, Ore.) at number-five (6-1,7-5)
Adding to the singles wins were the Pack's number-two and three doubles teams. Brietenbach and Alexandro Mancayo (So., Veracruz, Mexico) dominated and won, eight games to none, at number-two doubles. Chavez teamed up with Bruno Hurtado (Jr., Mexico City, Mexcio) to win at number-three , eight games to four.
CSU-Pueblo will host Colorado Mesa, Nebraska-Kearney, Montana State Billings, and Western New Mexico in matches starting Friday April 13, 2012. Play will start at 9 a.m.
