GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 29, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo left Grand Junction without a win over Colorado Mesa, falling 6-2 Sunday in the series finale.
The ThunderWolves gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning, setting the stage for the Mavericks to run away with the win and the sweep.
The ThunderWolves would get as close as 5-2 after plating two runs in the fifth inning. The runs scored following a leadoff double by Mike Knueppel (Jr., Mesa, Ariz.) and an RBI triple by Vinnie Mattivi (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.).
The ThunderWolves struggled on the mound, unable to find much stability as seven arms made its way to the bump. Of the seven pitchers appearing Sunday, four pitched 1/3 innings or less.
CSU-Pueblo, now at 25-21 overall and 22-14 in RMAC play, is narrowly holding on to third place in the RMAC standings by two games with four remaining. It will close out its regular season next weekend on the road at Metro State.
