ThunderWolves drop series to Regis and are two games behind Mesa.
DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 14, 2012) - The last thing CSU-Pueblo needed to do this weekend was lose a series with Regis as it sought to stay neck-and-neck with Colorado Mesa in the RMAC standings.
But unfortunately for CSU-Pueblo, that's just what it did Saturday as it suffered a doubleheader sweep to Regis, losing 7-4 and 10-4, as it lost just its second RMAC series of the season.
The losses are doubly painful, as CSU-Pueblo missed a golden opportunity to make ground on Mesa, which suffered an uncharacteristic loss to basement-dwelling Colorado Christian Saturday.
The ThunderWolves, which has rode its normally outstanding starting pitching to win after win this season, finally saw it give way Saturday as both starters gave up big innings that ultimately decided the game.
Regis posted seven runs in the second inning of the early game en route to its 7-4 win, then put up six in the fifth inning as it won 10-4.
Offensively, CSU-Pueblo registered just a total of 14 hits, far below its standard of nearly 11 hits per game this season.
After the losses, the Pack is two games behind first place Colorado Mesa with a 23-15 overall record and a 20-8 conference mark. CSU-Pueblo will return home for its final home series of the year, kicking off with "Pack the Park" at Pueblo's Runyon Field Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
