Pack downed by walk-off home run

ThunderWolves give up three runs in 10th to fall to defeat.

DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 13, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo. was primed for an extra-inning win over Regis in a non-conference battle Tuesday, but gave up three 10th inning runs, including a walk-off homer, to lose 5-4.

In a pitchers' duel that was tied 2-2 after nine innings, which featured six Pack pitchers combining to give up just two runs on seven hits, the offenses for both teams suddenly ramped up in the 10th inning.

CSU-Pueblo started it off with a leadoff single by Brandon Evans (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.), who was then doubled home by J.T. Greenhood (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) to give the Pack a 3-2 lead. Three batters later, Cale Soole (So., Louisville, Colo.) knocked Greenhood in to give the ThunderWolves a cushion of two runs.

In the bottom of the 10th, however, a one-out home run by Jon Shoutta brought the Rangers to within one.  Kyle Ginter (Jr., Chino Hills, Calif.) would enter the game on the mound and he immediately got the second out of the inning on a groundball to shortstop.

But with a runner on, Alex Haag ended the game with a blast, the Rangers' second of the inning, to sink the ThunderWolves by one run in unlikely fashion.

With the loss, CSU-Pueblo falls to 8-12 on the year.  The ThunderWolves will return home for a four-game series with Metro State, starting this Friday night at 6 p.m.
