Pack uses six relievers in failed attempt for rally.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 19, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo was forced to settle for a series split with Montana State Billings Sunday following a tulmultuous 7-2 loss to the Yellowjackets.
The ThunderWolves were forced to use a piecemeal approach on the mound as it used six relievers in attempts to calm the MSU-Billings bats, which came away with 12 hits on the day - all of which were singles and most seemingly of the "seeing-eye" variety. The ThunderWolf staff, though, was able to lure the Yellowjackets into 10 team strikeouts.
Billings jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, mostly by simply letting the ThunderWolves pitch themselves into a deficit. Through three innings, Pack pitchers allowed four walks, an additional two hit batsmen and a balk, with only one of the Yellowjackets' first three runs coming on a legitimate RBI hit.
Overall, Pack pitchers walked eight and hit another two.
Offensively, no ThunderWolf registered more than two hits as CSU-Pueblo could only ding Billings pitchers for six hits.
The ThunderWolves will now head to the road, taking on a tough Angelo State (Tex.) team, which is off to a 9-2 start and is receiving mention in the Division II national poll.
