ThunderWolves end regular season on high note.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - May 7, 2011) - The ThunderWolves closed its season hot Saturday, splitting a doubleheader with RMAC Mountain Division-leading Metro State, claiming a 7-4 win before losing the late game in extra innings, but clinching a series win over the Roadrunners.

The ThunderWolves end their regular season with a 27-23 record and will enter the RMAC Tournament in Grand Junction as the four-seed.  The tournament begins Wednesday.

In the opening game, CSU-Pueblo sprinted out to a 5-0 lead by the third inning.  The Pack collected three hits each in the second and third innings, scoring a bulk of its runs on a two-run single by Justin Cooper (Sr., Pullman, Wash.) in the second inning and a two-run double by Joe Manders (Sr., Louisville, Colo.).

Collecting the win in the opening game was Jeremiah Struble (So., Manitou Springs, Colo.) who pitched seven innings, holding Metro State to three runs despite allowing 12 hits. 

In the late game, the ThunderWolves went down big early, giving up five runs in the first inning before staging a comeback.  The Pack scored two runs each in the third, fourth and fifth innings, finally taking the lead when Andrew Castaneda (Jr., San Jose, Calif.) scored on a Beau Stevens (Sr., Westminster, Colo.) double to right centerfield, giving the Pack a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

But Metro State would tie it immediately in the bottom of the sixth, sending the game to extra innings.  But the Roadrunners would turn in a four-run eighth to secure a 10-6 win and salvage one game of the weekend's four-game series.

The ThunderWolves will enter the RMAC Tournament against the RMAC's third seed.  The bracket will be released on www.rmacsports.org later this evening.
