Pack drops three of four at Mines, takes hit in RMAC Mountain Division standings.

GOLDEN, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 23, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo suffered a stinging defeat Saturday, losing a great opportunity to move up in the RMAC Mountain Division standings after falling 5-4 in extra innings to Colorado Mines.

The loss, the Pack's third in fourth games, marks the first time since 2008 CSU-Pueblo has lost a four-game series to the Orediggers.

The ThunderWolves saw an early 3-0 lead, built on a two-run first inning followed by a Josiah Rodriguez (Sr., San Jose, Calif.) home run in the fourth inning, evaporate when Mines hung three runs on the ThunderWolves in the fifth inning to the game at 3-3.

Mines took the lead in the 7th inning after a successive double and single resulted in an Oredigger run, putting the Pack behind 4-3.

But a Craig Davis (Sr., Westminster, Colo.) RBI single in the 8th inning tied the game at 4-4, setting the stage for an extra-inning tilt.

However, Mines wasted no time in the 10th inning, using a error at shortstop to score the winning run, as a two-out single ended the game and sank the ThunderWolves.

With the loss, CSU-Pueblo falls to 23-19 overall and 18-14 in RMAC play.  Thankfully, since division-leading Mesa State lost three out of four this weekend, as well, the Pack loses no ground in the Mountain Division race, still sitting three games out of first place.

The Pack will try to take advantage of Mesa's cold spell next weekend when they come to town to take on the ThunderWolves, its first meeting coming in the annual "Pack the Park" game at Runyon Field next Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
