Pack wins its fourth dual in its past five, closing the season hot.
DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 23, 2011) - Though much of the season has been bumpy for the CSU-Pueblo men's tennis team, the ThunderWolves ended its season with a bang Saturday, defeating Mesa State 5-3 in the RMAC's fifth-place match.
CSU-Pueblo has won four out of its past five matches, its hottest streak of the season, as the season met its end.
The ThunderWolves started strong in the doubles round, winning two of the first three faceoffs. The closest match was at two doubles, where Bruno Hurtado (So., Mexico City, Mexico) and Saul Shrom (Fr., Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) outlasted Joseph Aragon and Brason Hollabaugh by a slim 8-6 score.
In the singles matches, battled flared there, as well, as two matches went to tiebreak. Hurtado emerged in the one-singles match, winning 6-3, 7-6, 8-6 while Shrom was on the short end, losing 7-2, 2-6, 10-8. But dominant wins in straight sets by Anthony Breitenbach (So., Tigard, Ore.) at two-singles and Rafael Rivera (Sr., Bingen, Germany) at the five hole helped make the difference for the ThunderWolves.
CSU-Pueblo finishes the 2011 season with a 6-18 mark, and after a 1-5 conference campaign, went 2-1 in the RMAC tournament, losing only to RMAC runner-up, Montana State-Billings.
