ThunderWolves live to play another day at RMAC Championships

DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 22, 2011) - Though an RMAC Championship is out of reach, CSU-Pueblo can end its season with a win Saturday as it takes on Mesa State in Denver at the RMAC Championships.

The ThunderWolves opened up against Montana State-Billings, which eventually played itself into the RMAC Championship dual, losing 5-2.  It then came back in an elimination match in the consolation bracket against Colorado Christian, smoking the Cougars 5-0.

The RMAC Championships consists of a traditional winners' bracket, in which the conference's seven teams battle it out for a berth in the conference title match.  The losers of each match get sent to the consolation bracket in a double-elimination format.  There is not, however, the opportunity to play your way back into a shot for the conference championship and no consolation champion is crowned.

Leading the ThunderWolves were Bruno Hurtado (So., Mexico City, Mexico) and Saul Shrom (Fr., Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) who combined to go 2-0 at two-doubles.  Hurtado then went on to win his singles match against Colorado Christian.

With a win over Mesa State Saturday, CSU-Pueblo can claim what amounts to a fifth-place finish in the RMAC Tournament.

All-conference selections

Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference all-conference selections were announced Friday, and three ThunderWolves made the squad.

Hurtado, the Pack's one-singles player, earned second-team selections while Shrom and Anthony Breitenbach (So., Tigard, Ore.) earned third-team selections.
